JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — PT Sejahteraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk, or SRAJ, the healthcare arm of Mayapada Group, has launched the groundbreaking of Mayapada Apollo Batam International Hospital with an investment of Rp 1 trillion, equal to $61 million.
The facility is being developed within the Batam Special Economic Zone for Tourism and International Healthcare and is scheduled for full operations by the end of 2027.
The groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, was led by Head of Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority Amsakar Achmad, Acting Secretary General of the National Council of Special Economic Zones Rizal Edwin Manansang, and President Commissioner of Mayapada Healthcare Jonathan Tahir.
Mayapada Apollo Batam International Hospital, designed by HKS Singapore, will stand on a 2.9-hectare site with the first development phase covering 1.68 hectares.
The 11-story facility with a semi-basement will accommodate 250 beds. It will be the first private hospital with international standards in Batam’s health SEZ, complementing Bali International Hospital, which is government-owned.
Jonathan Tahir emphasized that the project is a long-term investment aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s healthcare independence.
“We believe every Indonesian deserves access to international-standard healthcare without needing to go abroad,” he said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025.
Rizal Edwin Manansang noted that nearly two million Indonesians seek treatment abroad each year, leading to a foreign exchange outflow of up to Rp 200 trillion.
He said the new hospital would serve as a national strategic project supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s agenda to expand domestic healthcare services.
Amsakar Achmad added that the project will reinforce Batam’s position as an international healthcare hub and drive regional economic growth.
“Those who previously traveled overseas for medical care will be able to get treatment here. We are even optimistic about attracting foreign patients to Batam,” he said.
Flagship Services
Mayapada Healthcare allocated more than Rp 1 trillion for the facility, which will feature advanced treatment in cardiology, oncology, neurology, gastrohepatology, and orthopedics.
The hospital is also being prepared to handle complex cases such as organ transplants and advanced cancer therapy. Cutting-edge technologies, including robotic surgery, cell and gene therapy, and AI-based cardiac monitoring, will be integrated.
Navin Sonthalia, President Director and CEO of Mayapada Healthcare, highlighted the benefits of the SEZ framework, which permits foreign specialist doctors to practice, enables collaboration with Indonesian medical professionals of global standards, and facilitates access to advanced medicines and technologies.
“All of this is to deliver advanced, international-standard medical services at competitive costs for Indonesians,” he said.
The project is a collaboration between Mayapada Healthcare and Apollo Hospitals India. Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals, said the partnership would introduce cross-border clinical innovation and strengthen Indonesia’s healthcare ecosystem.
