JAKARTA, investortrust.id — Indonesia’s daily oil production, or lifting, has surpassed its 2025 state budget target, according to Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung.
As of mid-June, national oil lifting reached 610,000 barrels per day (BOPD), higher than the 2025 budget target of 605,000 BOPD and a significant increase from the 570,000 BOPD recorded in the first quarter of the year.
“This month, our daily lifting has averaged above 600,000 barrels. We’re now already above 610,000 barrels,” said Yuliot during an event at the ministry’s office in Jakarta, as quoted on Monday, June 16, 2025.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has been pushing to raise domestic oil and gas output as part of broader efforts to strengthen national energy resilience and reduce dependence on volatile international markets.
“This is about energy security. We are actively working to increase domestic oil and gas production,” Yuliot emphasized.
Geopolitical Tensions Drive Oil Price Surge
The production milestone comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly the outbreak of conflict between Iran and Israel, which has rattled global oil markets.
According to CNBC, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude surged $2.72, or 3.7%, to $75.67 per barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude jumped $3.67, or nearly 5%, to $77.90 per barrel during Sunday’s trading session on June 15.
Indonesia, a net importer of crude oil, is especially sensitive to price swings in global energy markets. Rising output may help cushion the economy against external shocks, even as the country maintains long-term ambitions to reach one million BOPD by 2030.
