JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Minister of Trade Budi Santoso says Indonesia will sign its trade agreement with Tunisia in January 2026 as the Indonesia Tunisia Preferential Trade Agreement has been fully completed and is now only awaiting a suitable signing window. Speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday, Nov 25, 2025, he said the agreement had been expected to be finalized this year but scheduling prevented its signing. He stated, "We have also completed the agreement with Tunisia, and the plan is that in January 2026 we will probably sign the Indonesia Tunisia PTA. This is actually just a matter of timing, but the agreement itself is already finished."
He said Indonesia completed five major trade agreements in 2025, including the Indonesia Peru CEPA, the Indonesia Canada CEPA, the Indonesia EU CEPA, the Indonesia Eurasia Free Trade Agreement, and the Indonesia Tunisia PTA. He said the agreements are expected to deliver zero percent tariffs and reduce or eliminate non tariff barriers, creating wider export opportunities for Indonesian businesses.
Budi said the Eurasia agreement had also been completed and was only waiting for a signing schedule. He encouraged the business community to use the new market access, saying, "We are trying through our representatives to hold business forums or online business matching sessions. That is something we can do with the help of our representatives so they can help find trade partners."
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Trade announced that three agreements, the Indonesia Canada CEPA, the Indonesia Eurasian Economic Union FTA, and the Indonesia Tunisia PTA, had been finalized but not yet signed.
Director General of International Trade Negotiations Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono said the next step was to complete the signing process. He said, "These three trade agreements have been completed but have not been signed. These three are waiting to be signed."
He said the Indonesia EU CEPA remained in its final stage, supported by political commitments from both sides to conclude negotiations soon. He said, "The EU agreement will be next. It is not finished yet, so we will try to complete it. The President has already announced there is a political agreement to finalize it soon this year. Hopefully in the next few weeks we can truly complete it."
Djatmiko said the Indonesia Peru CEPA, recently signed, had entered the ratification stage. He explained the process, saying, "The process is now moving into ratification. It will go to parliament, be discussed with related ministries and institutions, and a draft law will be prepared. This usually takes around twelve months or one year."
"Hopefully it can be faster, and our team will monitor the ratification process. We will move quickly. In the law or in the Presidential Regulation governing this ratification, it has already been stipulated in detail that within a maximum number of days the government must submit it to parliament," he said.
