Crypto Rises as a Favorite Investment Among Indonesia’s Wealthy, Alongside Gold
Key Takeaways

JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Wealthy Indonesians are increasingly turning to cryptocurrency and gold in 2025, while cutting back on traditional assets such as stocks, bonds, and cash, according to HSBC’s latest survey.
The report, titled Affluent Investor Snapshot 2025: A Quality of Life Special Report, found that crypto allocations among affluent investors in Indonesia rose by 2 percentage points to 8% this year. The survey covered 10,797 investors across 12 countries, including 547 respondents from Indonesia.
The findings highlight growing interest in digital assets despite continued market volatility. Cryptocurrency has emerged as a key component of high-net-worth portfolios in the country.
Gold, however, saw the largest jump in popularity. Investment interest in the precious metal surged by 12 percentage points to 25%, making it the top asset allocation choice for Indonesia’s wealthy in 2025.
By contrast, traditional instruments recorded declines. Equity allocations fell by 5 percentage points to 5%, bond holdings dropped by 3 percentage points to 10%, and cash allocations decreased by 6 percentage points to 19%.
This shift suggests a stronger appetite for hedging assets and alternative instruments with greater growth potential. Indonesian investors still hold 19% of their portfolios in cash and intend to maintain or expand this share next year.
HSBC also noted that crypto allocations in Indonesia are higher than in several peer countries. Wealthy Malaysians placed just 6% of their assets in crypto, while investors in Mexico allocated 7%. In Singapore, the share stood at 5%.
Indonesia, however, trails behind the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom, where wealthy investors each allocated 9% of their portfolios to crypto.
