JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk or ENRG discovers new oil through its subsidiary on Tuesday, Jan 27, 2026 in the Malacca Strait, strengthening expectations for sustained national oil output as early testing confirms commercial potential. The discovery signals improved reservoir quality and opens room for further development that could lift near term production.
The company said PT Imbang Tata Alam (Persero) identified a productive layer in the Upper Sihapas Formation with a net pay thickness of around 80 feet. Initial flow testing recorded production of about 350 barrels of oil per day, reflecting stable flow characteristics and solid reservoir quality.
From a geological perspective, the company said the discovery was interpreted as a stratigraphic trap, creating further upside for additional resources and reserve growth. This structure supports continued exploration around the discovery area.
Deputy President Director and Chief Financial Officer Edoardus Ardianto said the estimated Original Oil in Place from the find reached around 31 million barrels. He said potential incremental production could reach 1,000 to 1,500 barrels of oil per day from the planned development of the MSTB-NW structure through six development wells.
He added that similar seismic responses in nearby areas indicated additional prospective resources of around 76 million barrels of oil. These prospects were expected to become targets for the company’s next exploration campaign.
Director of EMP and Chief Operation Asset A Kelik R. Suharya said the subsidiary would coordinate closely with SKK Migas to continue technical studies. The work aimed to mature the development concept of the MSTB-NW structure while identifying further exploration opportunities around the discovery.
President Director and Chief Executive Officer Syailendra S. Bakrie said the oil find was expected to contribute positively to Indonesia’s energy security. He said the company remained committed to sustainable exploration and development to deliver long term value for stakeholders in the Malacca Strait working area.
