JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — The Indonesian government, through Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, has designated seven regions for the construction of Waste-to-Energy Facilities, known locally as PSEL, marking a key milestone in the country’s green energy transition.
Zulkifli, widely known as Zulhas, said the initiative demonstrates how waste management can become both an energy solution and an economic catalyst, generating new jobs and revenue opportunities in the regions.
The seven designated regions are Bali Province, Yogyakarta Special Region, Greater Bogor, Greater Tangerang, Semarang City, Greater Bekasi, and Greater Medan.
“Today we prove that from piles of waste, we can produce electricity, create jobs, and grow local economies,” Zulhas said in an official statement on Saturday, Oct 25, 2025.
The Waste-to-Energy Program is part of Indonesia’s national energy transition agenda aimed at achieving environmentally friendly solutions, enhancing energy independence, and safeguarding public health. Zulhas emphasized that the program’s success depends on strong collaboration between the government, private sector, and communities.
“Waste becomes electricity, and the economy turns green. From waste we produce energy, and from energy we create prosperity,” Zulhas said.
The limited coordination meeting (Rakortas) on PSEL was attended by Minister of Environment Hanif Faisal Nurofiq, Chief of the Presidential Staff Office Muhammad Qodari, Head of the National Investment Management Agency Danantara Rosan Roeslani, Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti, and other senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
Also present were President Director of PT PLN Persero Darmawan Prasodjo, Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, Deputy Governor of Bali I Nyoman Giri Prasta, Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto, Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim, and representatives from other regional administrations.
