JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Pertamina has confirmed that its solar photovoltaic (PV) module plant in Karawang, West Java, with an annual production capacity of 1.4 gigawatts (GW), will operate at full capacity by the end of 2025.
The confirmation came from Agung Wicaksono, Director of Transformation and Business Sustainability at PT Pertamina (Persero), during the Green Energy Summit 2025 hosted by Investortrust at the JW Marriott Hotel, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Sept 23, 2025.
"Our solar PV factory in Karawang, developed with LONGi from China, will enable us to answer the growing demand for solar energy modules. In the past, the main challenge was meeting the local content requirement, or TKDN. By building domestic capacity, we are ensuring that the production of solar panels can reach up to 1.4 GW per year. We are confident this facility will be fully operational by the end of this year," Agung said.
Agung emphasized that Pertamina views green energy not only as a business opportunity but as a broader movement. He noted that Pertamina has six subholdings—Upstream, Refining and Petrochemical, Commercial and Trading, Gas, Integrated Marine Logistics, and Power and New Renewable Energy—that work together to strengthen this transition.

"Pertamina is no longer just an oil company distributing fuel. We are moving into new and renewable energy. This effort requires collaboration, which we call the pentahelix approach, with stakeholders including the media. Today, we appreciate Investortrust for supporting this journey," Agung added.
Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), the subholding dedicated to power and renewables, has partnered with LONGi Green Technology Co Ltd to establish the plant. The initiative is designed to strengthen Indonesia’s local supply chain, fulfill rising domestic demand, and support the government’s TKDN policy, while also opening opportunities across Southeast Asia.
Pertamina NRE CEO John Anis described the project as a milestone in Indonesia’s energy transition. "By building local manufacturing capacity, we aim to reinforce the solar PV supply chain, reduce production costs, and create high-skilled green jobs," John said in Bekasi on June 23, 2025.
The plant will use LONGi’s latest N-type Hybrid Passivated Back Contact (HPBC) 2.0 technology, enabling the production of high-efficiency modules. Located in Deltamas, Bekasi, the site offers strategic access to logistics and distribution networks. Pertamina expects the project to boost local employment and generate wider economic benefits.
