First Locally Assembled Electric Buses from VKTR Officially Operate for TransJakarta
JAKARTA, investortrust.id - PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk has officially launched 20 locally assembled electric buses for TransJakarta, marking a significant step toward sustainable public transportation in Indonesia.
The buses, introduced on Saturday, January 11, 2025, are completely knocked down (CKD) units with over 40% local content, developed through a collaboration between VKTR and Laksana Bus Manufaktur, Indonesia’s leading bus manufacturer.
The buses will serve two routes: Corridor 10, connecting Tanjung Priok and PGC, and Corridor 14, linking Jakarta International Stadium and Senen. This launch represents a significant step toward sustainable public transportation in Indonesia.
“The operation of these buses reinforces VKTR’s position as a pioneer in the transformation to environmentally friendly transportation in Indonesia,” said VKTR President Director Gilarsi W Setijono in an official statement on Saturday.

VKTR, a trailblazer in Indonesia’s commercial electric vehicle sector, became the nation’s first publicly listed electric vehicle company after its initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) on June 19, 2023.
According to Gilarsi, the CKD electric buses demonstrate VKTR’s commitment to sustainability and local industry development. With over 40% local content, the buses contribute to strengthening the domestic automotive industry while reducing environmental impact.
“This initiative aligns with the government’s policy of prioritizing domestic products in procurement, reflecting our dedication to advancing the national automotive industry’s self-reliance,” he added.

Gilarsi revealed that VKTR is expanding its production capabilities with the construction of a new assembly plant in Magelang, set to be completed by January 2025. The facility will boost production capacity, enhance operational efficiency, and position Indonesia as a regional hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.
The partnership between VKTR and Laksana ensures that each bus meets international standards while emphasizing the use of high-quality local components. The buses also feature a luxurious interior, setting a new standard for public transportation in Indonesia.
“The synergy between VKTR and our strategic partners forms the foundation for delivering innovative products that support the independence of the domestic industry,” said Gilarsi.

The operation of these electric buses aligns with TransJakarta’s target to transition its entire fleet to electric vehicles by 2030. VKTR’s contribution plays a critical role in accelerating the electrification of public transportation in the capital.
“Public transportation electrification is the future. VKTR is committed to leading this transformation by introducing reliable technology and fostering cross-sector collaboration to create a greener transportation system,” Gilarsi explained.
The electric buses are expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions while improving operational efficiency. This initiative not only underscores VKTR’s leadership in sustainable mobility but also supports Indonesia’s broader environmental and industrial goals.
