JAKARTA, Investortrsut.id — Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has inaugurated Indonesia’s largest solar panel manufacturing facility, operated by PT Trina Mas Agra Indonesia (TMAI), with a total investment exceeding Rp 1.5 trillion ($91.7 million).
Speaking at the launch in Kendal, Central Java, on Friday, June 20, 2025, Minister Agus emphasized that the solar panel industry plays a vital role in building Indonesia’s renewable energy independence and achieving its Net Zero Emissions targets.
“The solar panel industry is not only a supplier of technology but a catalyst for creating a sovereign national solar ecosystem,” Agus said in a formal statement.
The factory, which boasts an annual production capacity of 1 gigawatt-peak (GWp), is expected to manufacture around 1.4 million high-tech solar panels each year. According to Agus, the facility marks a significant step toward reducing Indonesia’s reliance on imported modules and solar cells from countries like China, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

The minister added that this investment would accelerate the formation of a domestic solar panel ecosystem through local component integration, absorption of locally produced solar cells, and future downstream development such as wafer, ingot, and polysilicon smelter production.
As part of its commitment to knowledge transfer and local workforce development, TMAI has trained 640 Indonesian workers in solar technology, following direct technical instruction in China.
TMAI Deputy CEO Lokita Prasetya highlighted that the new facility is the largest of its kind in the country and is capable of producing some of the largest solar panels in the world.
“The presence of TMAI is expected to support Indonesia’s clean energy goals and reduce dependence on imported energy components,” Lokita said.
