JAKARTA, investortrust.id – President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani have jointly witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a formal strategic dialogue between their governments. The agreement was signed during a bilateral meeting held at the Amiri Diwan Palace in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
The document, titled Memorandum of Understanding on the Strategic Dialogue between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the State of Qatar, was signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
The strategic dialogue mechanism, as outlined in the MoU, will be held annually at the foreign minister level. It will be supported by regular senior officials meetings (SOM) as preparatory platforms, and may include ad hoc working groups to execute specific cooperation programs.
The initiative is designed to enhance cooperation across a wide range of strategic areas. These include political and regional affairs, defense and security, energy and economy, agriculture and food security, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, youth exchange, the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, and joint coordination in multilateral forums.
The agreement signals a deepening of bilateral ties and a mutual intent to tackle global challenges through closer collaboration. The MoU is also seen as a platform for both nations to align their strategic interests and reinforce their roles in regional and international diplomacy.
