JAKARTA, investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto has overseen the signing of 27 contracts worth Rp 33 trillion ($2 billion) to strengthen Indonesia’s defense sector, including a strategic deal on fifth-generation fighter jets with Turkey.

The agreements were formalized following the opening ceremony of the Indo Defence 2025 Expo & Forum at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

The contracts involve the Ministry of Defense and various state-owned and private defense companies, and include provisions for the modernization of 20 military hospitals across the country.

Government Pushes Modernization Agenda

“The joint signing marks a concrete step in the government's commitment to building a strong and modern defense system,” Prabowo said during the event, emphasizing the administration’s cross-sector collaboration to scale up national defense capabilities.

Companies involved in the procurement include major Indonesian defense contractors such as:

● PT PAL Indonesia – naval shipbuilder

● PT Dirgantara Indonesia – aircraft manufacturer

● PT Pindad – land systems and weapons producer

● PT LEN Industri, PT Dahana, and PT Nusantara Turbine Propulsi – technology, explosives, and propulsion system firms

● As well as privately owned companies such as PT Praba Cipta Mandiri, PT Aggiomultimex International Grup, and PT Ellips Projects UK.

Strategic Jet Fighter Partnership with Turkey

One of the most high-profile deals signed during the expo was a memorandum of understanding between Indonesia and Turkey for the joint procurement and development of fifth-generation fighter jets.

The MoU was signed by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Turkish Defense Industry Secretary Haluk Görgün, with President Prabowo present as a witness.

This defense cooperation is expected to deepen bilateral ties between Jakarta and Ankara, while accelerating Indonesia’s ambition to modernize its air force with cutting-edge combat aircraft.
