JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — VinFast confirms that its long-planned investment in Indonesia is moving ahead, with its Subang factory in West Java set to begin operations by the end of 2025. Chief Executive Officer of VinFast Indonesia Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto said the first model to roll out will be the VF3, an affordable electric vehicle that has become the company’s best-selling unit.
“For the initial stage, production will start with VF3, because in terms of volume it has been our backbone,” Kariyanto said during a visit to the Investortrust.id office on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025.
He explained that the decision to produce other models would depend on market response by the end of this year. However, he emphasized that VinFast’s flexible production system allows new models to be introduced within months instead of years.
Local Assembly and TKDN Targets
Responding to questions about shifting from imported completely built-up units to local assembly under the completely knocked-down scheme, Kariyanto stressed that product quality will remain consistent.
“CBU and CKD quality is the same, because components come from the same suppliers. The difference lies only in local content, such as batteries that will be supplied domestically,” he said.
VinFast expects local assembly to improve price efficiency while also meeting government rules. The company aims to achieve 40 percent local content requirements, known in Indonesia as TKDN, by 2026 and raise the figure to 60 percent by 2027.
The Subang factory is designed to become a cornerstone of VinFast’s broader ecosystem strategy in Indonesia. The Vietnam-based company plans to build a reliable supply chain while boosting consumer confidence in electric mobility.
