JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia records 1.48 million foreign tourist arrivals in July 2025, as Bali remains the main gateway and school holidays in Australia fuel demand, according to an official briefing on Monday, Sept 1, 2025. The rise underscores resilient regional travel flows even as domestic trips decline and outbound journeys by Indonesian nationals increase.
Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), or Statistics Indonesia, reported 1,481,346 entries in July, up 4.62% from June and 13.01% from a year earlier. Deputy for Statistics Distribution and Services Pudji Ismartini said 1,304,732 arrivals came through main entry points such as international airports and seaports, while 177,614 were recorded at land border posts.
Cumulatively, foreign arrivals reached 8,531,525 from January through July, a 10.04% increase from the same period in 2024. The steady uptrend highlighted the contribution of key short-haul markets and the continuing normalization of travel across ASEAN and the wider Asia-Pacific.
Arrivals by Nationality and Gateway
By nationality, travelers from Malaysia topped the list in July with 212,100 arrivals, down 10.28% from June but up 19.36% year on year. Australia followed with 173,200 arrivals, rising 12.33% month on month and 3.79% year on year, supported by the Australian winter school holidays that typically lift Bali-bound traffic.
Visitors from China totaled 144,500, increasing 27.32% from the prior month and 14.61% from a year earlier as air connectivity and group travel continued to improve.
Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport remained the busiest gateway with 697,068 foreign arrivals in July. Pudji noted that arrivals through Bali were dominated by Australian travelers, reflecting seasonal patterns and the island’s enduring appeal as a short-haul beach destination for Australia.
Domestic and Outbound Travel
Domestic tourism softened. The number of trips taken by Indonesian residents inside the country—known locally as wisatawan nusantara (wisnus)—totaled 100,197,984 in July, down 4.68% from June and 29.72% from July 2024.
On a cumulative basis, domestic trips reached 713,981,763 in January–July, up 19.25% from the same period last year, indicating that year-to-date momentum remains intact despite the July dip.
Outbound travel by Indonesian nationals—often referred to as wisatawan nasional (wisnas)—rose on a monthly basis. BPS recorded 869,927 outbound journeys in July, up 19.57% from June, though 5.24% below July last year.
Cumulatively, outbound trips reached 5,441,136 in the first seven months of 2025, 1.79% higher than in the same period of 2024, suggesting a gradual normalization of international travel habits among Indonesians.
