Train Tickets for Eid Travel Go on Sale in February as Passenger Capacity Increases
JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – Travelers planning to return home by train this Eid can mark their calendars, as the national railway operator has announced that tickets will be available starting 45 days before the holiday. The announcement came from the company’s President Director, who outlined plans to accommodate more passengers this year.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), known as KAI, plans to increase passenger capacity by 8% compared to last year’s Eid period, aiming to transport between 3.8 million and nearly 4 million passengers.
“Ticket sales will start 45 days before Eid,” said Didiek Hartantyo, KAI’s President Director, following a meeting with the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
To manage high demand during ticket sales, KAI is implementing mitigation measures to prevent system overload. Didiek stated that KAI is considering the use of a virtual waiting room to manage the influx of ticket buyers and prevent the main server from becoming overwhelmed.
“Instead of directly entering the main system, we might use a waiting room. This way, we can control the capacity and adapt as needed,” he explained.
As a reference, during the 2024 Eid homecoming period, KAI provided 3.28 million tickets.
No Increase in Public Transport Ticket Prices
Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir assured the public that ticket prices for all modes of public transportation will remain unchanged during the 2025 Eid season. This decision aligns with the government’s goal of ensuring maximum public service and security during the holiday.
Speaking after the meeting with leaders from KAI, Damri, Pelni, ASDP, Pelindo, and Jasa Marga, Erick outlined two key agreements reached during the discussions.
“There will be no ticket price increases for Pelni, ASDP, Jasa Marga, Damri, and other public transportation providers. This decision follows the central government’s policies and supports programs focused on public service and safety,” Erick stated.
The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises affirmed its commitment to working with other ministries to implement policies in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives.
