Vice President of Public Relations KAI Anne Purba said all modes under KAI Group posted higher passenger numbers, including long-distance and local trains, commuter lines, and the Jabodebek light rail transit (LRT) system.
“This is a positive signal that rail-based transportation is increasingly becoming the top choice for daily mobility, business travel, and tourism,” Anne said on Monday, Aug 11, 2025.
LRT Jabodebek recorded the highest growth rate, with passenger numbers climbing 47.23% to 15.77 million, compared with 10.71 million in the same period of 2024. KAI’s tourism trains, including panoramic and luxury services, rose 44.78% to 127,094 passengers.

KAI’s long-distance and local services transported 32.76 million passengers, a 7.5% rise from 30.46 million in January–July 2024. KAI Commuter, which manages the Commuter Line Jabodetabek, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rail Link, and local trains in Bandung, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta, served 227.52 million passengers, up 7.02% from 212.59 million in the previous year.
Meanwhile, 3.52 million passengers used the Whoosh high-speed rail operated by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), a 7.01% increase from 3.29 million a year ago.
“Rail-based transportation not only provides a safe and comfortable travel solution, but also drives regional economic activity, reduces congestion, and contributes to lowering emissions,” Anne said.
