JAKARTA, Investortrust.id - Indonesia faces mounting losses from the Sumatra floods as official data shows 631 deaths and one million people displaced, while Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirms that Rp500 billion in BNPB disaster funds remains available and can be increased when needed.
The BNPB dashboard reported that 472 people were missing and about 2,600 were injured across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Total affected residents reached 3.3 million as disaster zones expanded and search operations continued.
BNPB data showed extensive physical losses, including 5,500 severely damaged houses, 12,000 moderately damaged, and 3,500 lightly damaged. The floods also damaged 322 public facilities and 277 bridges, widening the scale of rehabilitation that regional governments would require.
Purbaya said the government was prepared to inject additional funding to support emergency response and subsequent reconstruction. He stated, "BNPB still has more than Rp500 billion. If more funding is needed, we are ready to add it, and the allocation already exists."
He emphasized that any addition would be processed through the additional state budget mechanism. Purbaya explained, "Emergency spending is available. BNPB can submit ABT to us, and we will process it."
The national disaster agency received Rp2.01 trillion in the 2025 state budget, while the allocation for 2026 declined to Rp491 billion. Purbaya noted that the government would adjust spending if field conditions required larger intervention levels. He added, "BNPB will decide what they need. But the money is sufficient."
Authorities continued to assess whether additional funding would also include social protection for residents who lost their homes and livelihoods. Purbaya said the scope would depend on BNPB proposals, adding, "I do not know yet. It depends on what BNPB submits. But the money is enough."
