JAKARTA, investortrust.id — French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France and Indonesia have agreed to deepen their bilateral partnership through a series of forward-looking and ambitious projects. The announcement followed his recent talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during the G20 Summit in Brazil.
In a post on his official X account @EmmanuelMacron on Saturday, April 5, 2025, Macron stated, “I have just spoken with the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. We have decided to strengthen the relationship between our two countries with ambitious and forward-thinking projects.”
The bilateral meeting took place on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil. Macron revealed that the partnership will be formalized during his upcoming state visit to Indonesia at the end of May 2025.
According to Macron, both countries are committed to strengthening cooperation across key sectors, including defense, economy, science, and culture. He also emphasized plans to foster academic exchanges between French and Indonesian institutions.
"France and Europe want to build the economy of the future together with Indonesia by creating resilient value chains, particularly in critical minerals, and by supporting the energy transition," Macron said.
Beyond bilateral issues, Macron and Prabowo also discussed global peace and security challenges. The two leaders shared a united stance on promoting peace in the Middle East and ending Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
In addition, Macron confirmed that France and Indonesia will collaborate in organizing a high-level conference on Gaza scheduled for June 2025.
“The future is built through strong partnerships, open trade, and a shared vision,” Macron added.
