JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto has installed a new diplomatic veteran to steer Indonesia’s interests in the heart of the Middle East. On Friday afternoon, April 10, 2026, the President officially inaugurated Andi Rahadian as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen.
The ceremony, held at the State Palace, saw Rahadian take his oath of office under Presidential Decree No. 31/P of 2026. Stationed in Muscat, the new envoy will navigate a dual-mandate role, managing established ties with the Sultanate of Oman while monitoring the volatile and strategic landscape of war-torn Yemen.
For Jakarta, the Muscat post is a vital link in its broader Middle Eastern strategy. Oman serves as a significant trade partner and a neutral diplomatic hub in the region, while Yemen remains a critical humanitarian and security concern for Indonesia’s global interests. The appointment signals President Prabowo’s intent to maintain a "steady hand" in these territories as Indonesia seeks to expand its footprint in the Gulf through both economic cooperation and peacekeeping diplomacy.
During the proceedings, President Prabowo personally led the recitation of the oath of office. "By Allah, I swear... that I will be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and will carry out all laws and regulations as strictly as possible for my service to the nation and state," Rahadian repeated before the President.
The oath emphasized a commitment to high ethical standards and strict adherence to directives from the central government. Following the ceremony, Mr. Rahadian signed the inauguration minutes, officially assuming his duties as the nation’s top representative for the two Arab nations.
The appointment of Rahadian is part of a series of strategic personnel moves at the State Palace. Earlier in the week, the President oversaw the swearing-in of nine new members of the Ombudsman and the appointment of Liliek Prisbawono as a Constitutional Court Justice.
This diplomatic appointment, however, carries specific weight given the current geopolitical climate in the Middle East. As Indonesia continues to advocate for regional stability, the envoy in Muscat will be tasked with protecting Indonesian citizens in Yemen and exploring new avenues for Indonesian state-owned enterprises in Oman’s diversifying economy.
