KUALA LUMPUR, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto underscores the importance of fostering concrete cooperation and ensuring that competition in the region remains constructive. He made the remarks during his intervention at the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia, on Monday, Oct 27, 2025.
The President noted that this new phase of regional cooperation comes amid a period of complex global challenges, ranging from climate change and trade disruptions to rising geopolitical tensions. According to him, these challenges directly affect the lives of people across the region.
“For Indonesia, these are not abstract risks. They are real pressures on our farmers, our young generation, and our vital role in the global supply chain,” President Prabowo said.
Prabowo highlighted the latest ASEAN Plus Three Regional Economic Outlook report, which showed the region’s economic resilience. However, he cautioned that stability should never be taken for granted. He therefore called for strengthening regional integration, diversifying trade, and enhancing financial safety nets as the core of the APT agenda.
“Indonesia acknowledges the contribution of trilateral cooperation among China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea to the entire region. To sustain growth and shield ourselves from external shocks, deepening this trilateral cooperation through regular summits and ministerial meetings will be crucial,” he said.
In pushing for more tangible outcomes, President Prabowo urged for the expansion of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) to ensure stable food supplies and enhance cross-border emergency responses through improved information exchange.
He also stressed the importance of fully implementing the APT Cooperation Work Plan (2023–2027) and strengthening the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation as concrete steps to deepen regional economic and financial cooperation. Indonesia, Prabowo added, fully supports the adoption of the ASEAN Plus Three Leaders’ Statement on Strengthening Regional Economic and Financial Cooperation.
“Let these aspirations guide our relevance and forward-looking vision in building a better future for the region,” he remarked.
Concluding his remarks, Prabowo emphasized the need to maintain a healthy spirit of competition amid the intensifying global landscape.
“I will close by reaffirming a fundamental truth: competition is inevitable—it is the engine of progress. But to truly drive advancement, competition must remain constructive,” the President said.
