BEIJING, Investortrust.id — Chinese President Xi Jinping meets Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, where the two leaders reaffirm commitments to strengthen political, economic, and defense ties, and discussed a major sea wall project to protect northern Java.
Xi welcomed Prabowo’s presence at the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, calling it a reflection of the importance Indonesia attaches to bilateral ties and the enduring friendship between their peoples. He pledged support for Prabowo’s leadership, Indonesia’s restoration of order and stability, and its long-term development.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of China–Indonesia diplomatic relations, the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence, and the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. Xi stressed that both countries have consistently upheld independence, pursued mutually beneficial cooperation, and should continue to act as responsible major nations in advancing peace and development.
Xi said China would work with Indonesia to carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, and to build a high-standard China–Indonesia community with a shared future, adding that such partnership would contribute to global progress.
Strengthening Strategic and Economic Collaboration
Xi urged both sides to deepen the alignment of development strategies and ensure long-term growth in relations. He called for full use of the “2+2” dialogue mechanism between foreign and defense ministers, expansion of defense and security ties, and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
China also expressed readiness to expand partnerships in critical minerals, digital economy, artificial intelligence, agriculture, and fisheries, while sharing its poverty alleviation experience. Xi framed China and Indonesia as key voices of the Global South that must oppose unilateralism and safeguard regional peace and fairness.
Prabowo responded by emphasizing that Indonesia–China relations are at their “best in history” and remain a top priority of his foreign policy. He highlighted trade, investment, finance, and infrastructure as areas for deeper cooperation, saying this would bring greater benefits to both peoples and strengthen regional stability.
Sea Wall Project and SCO Invitation
During the talks, Prabowo and Xi discussed plans for a giant sea wall along the northern coast of Java, known as pantura, a project aimed at mitigating flooding and securing key economic zones.
Prabowo also conveyed his appreciation for Xi’s invitation to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin and related celebrations in Beijing, while apologizing for being unable to attend the SCO meeting.
He thanked Xi for the warm reception extended to him and the Indonesian delegation, recalling that their last meeting during his state visit to Beijing in November 2024 was “a milestone in the strategic partnership of both countries.”
Regional Stability and Shared Outlook
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining regional stability and strengthening international cooperation. The meeting concluded Prabowo’s working visit to China, further reinforcing diplomatic foundations that have been built for more than seven decades.
Senior Chinese officials present at the meeting included Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
