DOHA, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto arrives in Qatar on Friday, Sept 12, 2025, to meet Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, affirming Indonesia’s solidarity with Doha after an Israeli strike earlier in the week.
Prabowo landed at Hamad International Airport at 15:20 local time, where he was welcomed by Qatar’s Defense Minister Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Bin Hassan Bin Ali Al-Thani, Indonesian Ambassador to Doha Ridwan Hassan, and Defense Attaché Colonel Tengku Sony Sonatha. His arrival was marked by a military honor guard before proceeding directly to Lusail Palace for talks with the Emir.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the President’s decision to visit reflected Indonesia’s commitment to stand with Qatar following the Israeli assault on Tuesday, Sept 9. “President Prabowo decided to immediately come to Qatar after the Israeli attack. This is a direct expression of Indonesia’s solidarity and support for the government and people of Qatar,” Teddy told reporters in Doha.
Earlier, Prabowo had called Sheikh Tamim on Wednesday to convey concern and offer support. The trip reaffirmed Indonesia’s consistent stance on upholding Qatar’s sovereignty and promoting peace in the Middle East.
During the meeting at Lusail Palace, the atmosphere was both warm and solemn, underscoring shared concern over the regional escalation. Prabowo expressed deep sympathy for those affected and stressed the importance of international solidarity in resisting aggression that destabilizes the region.
The President emphasized that Indonesia backs collective global voices demanding an end to attacks on civilians. He also called for diplomacy rooted in humanity, justice, and peace as essential to a more stable future. “Indonesia will continue to contribute to building balance in global geopolitics and encourage dialogue among nations,” he said.
Beyond security issues, Prabowo and Sheikh Tamim also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation. Both leaders agreed to expand collaboration in diplomacy and humanitarian initiatives, viewing the crisis as an opportunity to reinforce long-standing ties between Indonesia and Qatar.
For Qatar, the Emir welcomed Indonesia’s support and expressed readiness to deepen joint efforts in advancing international diplomacy. Sheikh Tamim said his country valued Jakarta’s active role in promoting peace and solidarity worldwide.
Prabowo’s visit highlighted Indonesia’s broader commitment to play an active role in international affairs, consistent with the constitutional mandate in the 1945 preamble to participate in building a world order based on freedom, lasting peace, and social justice.
The President departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta earlier the same day at 10:30 local time, accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
