JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – Indonesia has pledged 10,000 tons of rice to Palestine as part of a strategic and humanitarian initiative ordered by President Prabowo Subianto.
The rice aid was symbolically handed over on Monday, July 7, 2025, by Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman to Palestinian Agriculture Minister Rezq Basheer-Salimia during a bilateral meeting in Jakarta. According to Amran, the directive came from President Prabowo ahead of his departure to Brazil for the BRICS Summit.
"On the instruction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, we have been ordered to send 10,000 tons of rice to our brothers and sisters in Palestine," said Amran during the meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters in South Jakarta.
Amran described the aid as a concrete show of Indonesia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people amid ongoing humanitarian crises.
“This is a humanitarian response to support our Palestinian brothers. We also pray for their swift independence and continue to back their food security,” he said.
The distribution timeline and logistics of the rice shipment will be coordinated with the Palestinian Ambassador in Jakarta. “We are ready to deliver the rice anytime. We leave it to the ambassador to decide when,” Amran added.
Palestinian Agriculture Minister Rezq Basheer-Salimia expressed deep gratitude for Indonesia’s unwavering support.
“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Indonesian government for supporting Palestine in every field, especially for upholding the rights of the Palestinian people,” he stated.
Agricultural Solidarity Zone Launched
In addition to the rice aid, the two countries launched a long-term agricultural partnership through the establishment of a “Palestine–Indonesia Solidarity Investment Zone” in South Sumatra. Indonesia has allocated between 10,000 and 15,000 hectares for the initiative.
The zone aims to bolster food resilience, promote rural development, and foster mutually beneficial agricultural investments.
The meeting also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation. The agreement covers various areas, including product development, technical training, and institutional capacity building—signaling a deeper strategic and humanitarian alignment between Jakarta and Ramallah.
