Agriculture Ministry Targets Daily Distribution of 7,000 Tons of SPHP Rice

JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture has set a target to distribute 7,000 tons of government-backed SPHP rice per day starting Friday, Aug 15, 2025, to stabilize market prices during a period with no major harvest.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono said distribution had already reached more than 3,000 tons per day and would be gradually raised to the target. “
There is a daily target. We are already above 3,000 tons per day, and our goal is 7,000 tons per day,” Sudaryono told reporters after attending the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly and the Joint Session of the House and Regional Representatives Council at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta.
He explained that rice distribution plays a crucial role during the lean season, when harvests are limited, to ensure stable prices for consumers. “This period without a harvest is a normal annual cycle, and we must be better prepared,” Sudaryono said, as quoted by Antara.
According to him, the government has sufficient national reserves to support the increased allocation.
“We are prepared now because we have the stock,” Sudaryono added. The program initially distributed 2,000 tons per day, which later increased to 3,000 tons, and will continue to rise to the 7,000-ton target.
Meanwhile, Siti Hediati Hariyadi, Chair of the House of Representatives Commission IV and better known as Titiek Soeharto, urged state-owned food logistics agency Bulog to accelerate the rollout of SPHP rice nationwide.
“The SPHP program must continue. We ask for it to be distributed quickly and completed,” she said.
Titiek noted that field monitoring in several regions, including South Sulawesi, showed the program had been implemented. However, she emphasized that Bulog should also release older stock from warehouses to keep supply rotation smooth.
The accelerated distribution of SPHP rice, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence, has begun to deliver positive results in stabilizing prices and ensuring availability across the country.
