JAKARTA, investortrust.id – Indonesia’s economic growth target of 8% will not be achievable without significant contributions from the agriculture and food sectors, according to Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie. To strengthen these sectors, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has committed to supporting various programs initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture.
This commitment was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Anindya Bakrie and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman in Jakarta on Monday, March 10, 2025. The agreement is expected to accelerate key agricultural initiatives and expand collaboration between businesses and the government to enhance food security and economic resilience.
Agriculture and Food Sectors Key to Economic Growth
Anindya emphasized that agriculture and food security are essential to achieving the government’s 8% GDP growth target. He stated that if these sectors thrive with broad-based support, the ambitious economic goal will be within reach.
“We firmly believe that 8% economic growth is unattainable without strong agriculture and food sectors,” Anindya said at the Agriculture Ministry headquarters in Jakarta.
Kadin will work closely with its regional chapters to support government programs in agricultural expansion, food security, and rural economic development. Anindya stressed that if the Ministry of Agriculture succeeds, Indonesia as a whole will benefit.
"We will also engage our industry partners to support these initiatives. If the Agriculture Ministry succeeds, Indonesia succeeds. I agree with the Minister that 8% growth is not just possible—it could be exceeded," he added.
The collaboration will focus on improving agricultural self-sufficiency, as outlined in President Prabowo Subianto’s national food security strategy. Anindya expressed confidence that under Minister Amran’s leadership, Indonesia’s farmers and agricultural industry will move up the value chain.
Kadin as a Key Driver of Agricultural Development
Minister Amran welcomed Kadin’s involvement, emphasizing that agriculture needs active participation from businesses to drive national economic growth.
"We aim to move beyond linear progress and achieve exponential growth. With this MoU, we are mobilizing all sectors starting today. The state budget provides stimulus funding for farmland expansion and optimization, which can be implemented immediately," Amran said.
The collaboration includes initiatives such as: expanding and optimizing farmland, promoting agricultural product downstreaming, encouraging private sector investment in agriculture and
eeveloping key commodities, including coconut, sugarcane, and cassava.
Amran stressed that Kadin’s participation would be instrumental in driving these programs forward, as it serves as a bridge between the government and the private sector.
"With Kadin's involvement, we can mobilize the business community to accelerate agricultural transformation. If Kadin and the government work together, the results will be much greater," he said.
Strategic Focus Areas in the MoU
The MoU outlines multiple areas of collaboration between Kadin and the Agriculture Ministry, including: coordinating agricultural development programs, strengthening the agricultural ecosystem to ensure resilience and sustainability, expanding market access and boosting agricultural exports, advancing farming technology and mechanization, enhancing downstream processing of agricultural products, investing in research and development for high-yield seeds and organic fertilizers, improving human resource capacity through specialized training.
This partnership is expected to accelerate Indonesia’s path to food self-sufficiency while creating new economic opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses. By combining government support with private sector investment, Indonesia aims to build a more robust and competitive agricultural sector that contributes to long-term economic prosperity.
