JAKARTA, investortrust.id — Indonesia’s top business chamber is staging a national retreat in Central Java this August, gathering 250 of its senior officials to reflect, reset, and realign their strategies in support of President Prabowo Subianto’s national development goals.
The four-day retreat, scheduled for Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 7–10, 2025, will take place at a military-led leadership facility in Magelang. It marks the first time the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or Kadin, has brought together its extended leadership for an immersive program designed to foster discipline, unity, and national consciousness.
Kadin Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie said the retreat was intended to cultivate “entrepreneurial warriors” — business leaders with the tenacity to withstand global shocks and the conviction to drive Indonesia’s growth while embodying the values of Pancasila.
A Call for Resilient, Nationalist Entrepreneurs
The retreat, which Kadin has requested President Prabowo to inaugurate on Friday, will include participants from across Indonesia, including vice chairs, provincial heads, members of advisory councils, and alumni of the National Resilience Institute.
Anindya, known as Anin, said the retreat would serve as both a symbolic and practical reset. The aim, he added, was to nurture a generation of business leaders who could navigate volatile conditions — including conflict like the recent Israel–Iran war — without resorting to retrenchment or withdrawal.
“In today’s world, war can break out at any time. Entrepreneurs must be globally aware, grounded in national values, and unshakeable,” he said after meeting the Governor of the National Resilience Institute, Tubagus Ace Hasan Syadzily, in Jakarta on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025.
He described the gathering as a historic first. For the first time, Kadin members would sleep in military barracks — not to become soldiers, but to learn the discipline and courage that defines them.
Retreating to Reflect, Consolidate, and Strategize
The retreat draws on the Latin root retrahere, meaning to withdraw or step back. Participants are expected to disconnect from daily business routines to evaluate their leadership and business strategies, while deepening their understanding of national priorities and geopolitical risks.
Sessions will cover Indonesia’s economic outlook, national defense strategies, energy and food sovereignty, and the evolving global environment. Speakers will include senior cabinet officials across economic and political portfolios.
Anindya said the event would also promote Kadin’s flagship initiatives — from free nutritious meals and healthcare access to affordable housing and migrant worker deployment — as part of a broader public-private partnership model aligned with the new administration.
The program is being organized in cooperation with the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) and the Indonesian Military Academy (Akmil), which are both providing curriculum support and facilitators for the sessions.
Fostering Long-Term National Commitment
Participants will be expected to produce a written reflection by the final day of the retreat and complete the full course to receive certification. The structure is designed to push Kadin leaders beyond ceremony and toward sustained, actionable commitment.
Kadin views the private sector not just as an economic engine, but as part of the broader national defense ecosystem. Anindya echoed the words of Indonesian economist Soemitro Djojohadikoesoemo, who warned that political sovereignty was meaningless without economic sovereignty.
The retreat comes as Indonesia prepares to celebrate its 80th Independence Day and lay the groundwork for “Indonesia Emas 2045,” the 100th anniversary of the republic. It is also a moment of transition: Prabowo’s presidency is just 10 months old, and many Kadin executives are in their first year in office.
“This is the right time to consolidate. We are preparing for the next 20 years,” Anindya said.
