JAKARTA, investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto's son, fashion designer Ragowo Hediprasetyo, visits the private residence of Megawati Soekarnoputri during the 2025 Idulfitri celebrations, underscoring warming ties between two of Indonesia’s most influential political families. The visit, seen as a gesture of goodwill, fuels speculation of a potential political realignment ahead of key government appointments.
Ragowo Hediprasetyo, widely known as Didit, arrived at Megawati’s home on Teuku Umar Street in Jakarta’s elite Menteng district around noon on Monday, March 31, 2025. He wore a green traditional tunic and a black peci cap, a common Idulfitri outfit in Indonesia. Megawati Soekarnoputri is Chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, PDIP, the ruling party in the outgoing administration and still a major force in parliament.
Ahmad Basarah, a senior PDIP official, said the visit represented a form of silaturahmi, a tradition of maintaining family and social ties during Idulfitri. "This reflects the continued warm relationship between the family of Mr. Prabowo and the family of Mrs. Megawati," Basarah told reporters.
The meeting took place in the wake of Prabowo Subianto’s electoral victory and ahead of his cabinet formation later this year. Megawati, who previously supported a rival candidate, has long maintained a complex relationship with Prabowo. Their personal ties have fluctuated over the years—from political rivalry to brief alignment during the early 2000s—before diverging again in more recent contests.
Basarah emphasized that the personal relationship between Megawati and Prabowo has remained cordial throughout political changes. "She has always said that her relationship with Mr. Prabowo has been good and continues to be so. Didit's visit today proves that," he added.
When asked whether Megawati and Prabowo will meet directly, Basarah suggested it was only a matter of time. "A direct meeting between Mrs. Mega and Mr. Prabowo is likely inevitable."
Basarah also mentioned that Megawati has known Didit personally for many years and that he is a close friend of her daughter, House Speaker Puan Maharani. This deepening intergenerational connection between the two families could pave the way for stronger political cooperation.
In Indonesia’s political culture, gestures of familial visits during national holidays can carry deeper meanings. This visit, though informal, is widely read as a potential prelude to strategic cooperation or even coalition formation between Prabowo’s incoming administration and PDIP, which could help ensure a smoother transition and strengthen legislative support.
Such a move would be significant, as PDIP still holds substantial seats in parliament. A Prabowo-Megawati rapprochement could also affect future legislative dynamics and the political positioning of Puan Maharani, whose ambitions for national leadership remain widely speculated.
