President Prabowo Targets Nusantara as Indonesia’s Political Capital by 2028
JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – President Prabowo Subianto has set a target for Nusantara Capital City to become Indonesia’s political capital by 2028. The ambitious plan was announced by Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority, after a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
“President Prabowo has set 2028 as the target for IKN to fully function as the political capital,” Basuki confirmed during a press briefing.
To meet this deadline, Prabowo instructed the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) to focus on constructing judicial and legislative ecosystems, including office buildings, residential facilities for judicial staff, and legislative infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of refining these designs to ensure they meet operational standards.
Prabowo has approved a budget of Rp 48.8 trillion ($3.2 billion) for IKN development during the 2025–2029 period. This allocation will finance the construction of judicial and legislative facilities, improve accessibility to the new capital, and maintain existing infrastructure.
“President Prabowo has agreed to allocate Rp 48.8 trillion for OIKN,” Basuki confirmed.
Achieving Full Political Functionality
Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, highlighted the significance of completing all key government functions at IKN. With judicial and legislative facilities in place, alongside the previously developed executive ecosystem, Nusantara will be fully equipped to serve as Indonesia’s political capital.
“With all three key functions—executive, judicial, and legislative—operational, IKN will be capable of carrying out daily and strategic political activities,” AHY stated.
