Indonesia's Digital Minister Meutya Hafid to Represent President Prabowo at AI Action Summit in Paris
JAKARTA, investortrust.id – Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid will represent President Prabowo Subianto at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris, France, from Monday, Feb. 10, to Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025.
The summit, or AIAS in short, serves as a high-level international forum that convenes representatives from over 100 countries, including heads of state, ministers, CEOs, and leaders of international organizations.
“The AIAS aims to foster discussions and concrete actions on the development and governance of AI at the global level. This forum follows the AI Safety Summit held in the United Kingdom in November 2023 and the AI Seoul Summit (AISS) in South Korea in May 2024,” Meutya said in a statement on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025.
French President Emmanuel Macron had extended an invitation to President Prabowo to attend AIAS in person, highlighting the event’s significance as a high-level meeting for world leaders. In addition to her participation in AIAS, Meutya has also been invited by UNESCO to present Indonesia’s AI readiness assessment methodology during a side event on Feb. 10.
AIAS 2025: Key Events and Indonesia’s Role
The AIAS agenda commenced on Feb. 6 with a welcoming banquet at the Élysée Palace, followed by a High-Level Segment at the Grand Palais. Over the following days, the summit features several key discussions, including Science Day (Feb. 6-7), Cultural Weekend (Feb. 8-9), Roundtable Discussions, and a State Leaders’ Banquet on Feb. 10. The summit’s highlight will be the Leaders’ Plenary and closing ceremony on Feb. 11.
Meutya emphasized that Indonesia’s participation in AIAS underscores the country’s commitment to shaping global AI governance. She stressed that appropriate regulations are crucial for Indonesia to fully engage in the AI ecosystem. Collaboration between the government, industry players, academia, and civil society will be key to developing policies that maximize the benefits of AI while addressing potential risks.
“A proactive approach from all stakeholders in regulating and developing AI is essential to ensure that Indonesia leverages AI technology for maximum benefits across society and key economic sectors,” she said.
Indonesia’s AI Policy and Economic Implications
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has already initiated AI policy dialogues to explore the challenges and opportunities across various sectors, including e-commerce, banking, healthcare, education, and sustainability. The Indonesian e-commerce market, projected to reach $150 billion by 2030, must integrate AI effectively to optimize economic benefits for all stakeholders.
With well-structured regulations, Meutya believes Indonesia can position itself as a key player in the global AI ecosystem. By actively participating in international forums like AIAS, Indonesia can help shape AI development and regulatory frameworks that align with both global advancements and national interests.
