Tito Says Prabowo Chooses February 20, 2025, for Regional Head Inauguration
JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – Indonesia’s Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs is considering holding the inauguration of the newly elected regional heads from the 2024 regional elections on Feb 18, 19, or 20, 2025. Among these dates, President-elect Prabowo Subianto has opted for the inauguration to take place on Feb 20, 2025.
"I reported to the President, and he chose Thursday, February 20," Tito said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, Feb 3, 2025.
Tito mentioned that the inauguration is planned to be held simultaneously in Jakarta. However, he did not disclose the exact location, given the large number of officials to be sworn in, including governors, deputy governors, mayors, deputy mayors, regents, and deputy regents.
“The simultaneous inauguration is scheduled for February 20 in the capital, Jakarta. However, due to the high number of attendees—including officials, their aides, and other invitees—the location is still being determined. What is certain is that it will be held in Jakarta, the Special Capital Region,” he stated.
Tito added that Prabowo would conduct the inauguration only once, considering efficiency. Subsequent inaugurations for the remaining regional heads will be conducted in accordance with standard procedures.
“If they are governors, they will be inaugurated by the president. Meanwhile, regents and mayors will be sworn in by their respective governors. The president will not officiate all ceremonies at once. We also need to consider unresolved cases in the Constitutional Court,” he explained.
Tito emphasized that Prabowo aims to expedite the inauguration process. The schedule adjustments have been made to accommodate ongoing legal disputes at the Constitutional Court (MK).
“This is slightly different from our discussion in the January 22 hearing. The changes are not abrupt but result from developments at the Constitutional Court. While the inauguration of non-disputed election winners has been slightly delayed from February 6 to February 20, those with dismissed cases have had their process expedited,” he said.
Previously, Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) and the government had agreed to inaugurate regional heads who were not involved in election disputes on February 6, 2025. However, this plan was postponed as the Constitutional Court is set to issue an interim ruling between February 4 and 5, 2025. The government then sought an alternative schedule that would accommodate not only the non-disputed winners but also those whose cases were dismissed.
