JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto has instructed all government officials to use Maung, a domestically manufactured tactical vehicle by PT Pindad, emphasizing the need for state institutions to prioritize local products. The directive was delivered during a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace on Monday, Oct 20, 2025.
“Soon, all of you must use Maung. I don’t want to hear any excuses. Those fancy cars can only be used when you’re off duty,” Prabowo said.
The president added that he had already stopped using his luxury Alphard, underscoring the need for top officials to set an example in embracing locally made vehicles.
“Yesterday, when I went out incognito, I didn’t want to use Maung. So I used a regular car—an Alphard. It has been a long time since I last enjoyed an Alphard,” he said with a smile.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa later confirmed that budget allocations for Maung vehicles had been planned for this year, although implementation depends on production capacity.
“The funds were supposed to be available this year, but apparently the production capacity isn’t sufficient yet, so it’s been rolled over,” Purbaya said when met by reporters at his office on Tuesday, Oct 21, 2025.
He explained that while the government has the fiscal room to fund the initiative, procurement will depend on the readiness of the manufacturer.
“If Pindad is ready, the money is there,” he stated.
Purbaya added that his ministry would ensure financing flexibility without interfering in industrial operations.
“My role is to make sure the money is ready. If I start managing the industry, people will say I’m meddling. But yes, we’re ready,” he said.
