JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Looters have raided the private home of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani in Bintaro Sector 3, South Tangerang, on Sunday early morning, Aug 31, 2025. The incident showed unusual patterns, as crowds moved in waves and appeared to act on signals.
Security staff member Joko Sutrisno said the first wave came around 1 a.m., followed by a second around 3 a.m. His testimony was confirmed by several residents and three security guards stationed near the Mandar housing complex, located about 150 meters from the house.
Residents confirmed that Sri Mulyani was not at home during the attack. Joko stated that only he and a relative’s family were inside the residence at the time, but the relatives were evacuated to a neighbor’s house before the looting began.
Eyewitnesses said items were piled in front of the house, ready to be taken away, when the military intervened. The property, located at the end of Jalan Mandar, is now guarded by a larger number of Indonesian Army personnel. No casualties were reported, and no cars were damaged since none were present.
According to witnesses, the second wave was the most terrifying, involving hundreds, possibly up to a thousand, mostly young men and teenagers. A neighbor, who requested anonymity, said she only dared to watch from behind her curtains.
Security guards Ali and Jayadi, who managed the complex’s main gate, confirmed the crowd gathered before 12:30 a.m. “The numbers reached hundreds, maybe close to a thousand,” Ali said. Witnesses described what appeared to be a coordinated entry, with fireworks used as a signal before the crowd surged into the complex. A commander was also heard ordering people not to bring motorcycles inside.
Joko and a soldier deployed for extra security said they tried to calm the mob to prevent the house from being set on fire. Some looters were singing loudly in the middle of the night, and several carried sharp weapons. One witness said a drone was also spotted hovering above the property.
Videos taken by Joko showed looters carrying off televisions, wardrobes, and other belongings. Initial reports surfaced on social media around 1 a.m., shared by local residents.
By Sunday morning, calm returned to the Mandar neighborhood, with dozens of soldiers stationed around the minister’s house to prevent further unrest.
