JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia’s digital economy contributes around Rp 1,860 trillion, or 8.4% of national GDP, according to a 2024 study by Prasasti Center for Policy Studies.
The report, titled Optimizing the Role of the Digital Economy to Achieve 8% Sustainable Growth in Indonesia, found that every one unit of added value in the digital economy stimulates 1.89 units of output in other sectors, highlighting a significant multiplier effect.
“This number reflects how dependent other sectors are on the digital economy,” said Prasasti Research Director Gundy Cahyadi at an event in Artotel Gelora Senayan on Tuesday, Aug 12, 2025.
Board of Advisors member Burhanuddin Abdullah noted that the digital economy plays a strategic role in achieving the government’s 8% growth target. He said that by supporting and facilitating digital development, the benefits can reach all levels of society.
“This can also expand access to markets, finance, and technology. The impact will be felt by consumers, merchants, small businesses, and informal workers,” Burhanuddin said.
He added that the national digital industry offers greater opportunities for Indonesian tech talent to secure jobs and learning experiences in their field.
Prasasti Policy and Program Director Piter Abdullah stressed the need to capitalize on the digital momentum to promote inclusive growth.
“With global economic slowdown, energy transition, and supply chain shifts, Indonesia needs a more efficient growth engine. The digital economy provides a concrete answer,” Piter said.
With projected contributions of US$220–360 billion by 2030, accounting for 40% of ASEAN’s digital economy, the sector is seen as a key driver of national productivity.
“The digital economy not only creates jobs and innovation but also serves as an enabler to reach the 8% growth target,” Piter added.
