JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto has welcomed Peru’s President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra with full state honors at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the relationship between the two Pacific nations.
The visit comes on the eve of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Peru, underscoring both countries’ commitment to deepening economic and strategic cooperation.
The welcoming ceremony began at 10:00 a.m. local time with a ceremonial motorcade escorting President Boluarte from the National Monument to the Merdeka Palace. The procession included 17 motorcycle escorts, 60 mounted guards, and thousands of schoolchildren waving Indonesian and Peruvian flags along the route.
President Prabowo received President Boluarte at the west entrance of the palace. After a cordial handshake, the two leaders walked together to the palace’s main veranda, where the national anthems of both countries were played and a 21-gun salute was fired in honor of the visiting head of state.
Following the formal military inspection, the two presidents introduced their respective delegations. Indonesia was represented by Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Trade Minister Budi Santoso, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to Peru Ricky Suhendar.
After a photo session and signing of the guestbook, the leaders held a private tête-à-tête meeting. President Prabowo extended his warm welcome to President Boluarte, recalling his visit to Lima in November 2024 and offering congratulations on Peru’s Independence Day.
“This is a great honor for us. We fondly remember our visit to Lima in 2024,” said President Prabowo. “We are delighted by Your Excellency’s visit. I also wish to congratulate Peru on its Independence Day.”
The tête-à-tête was followed by a bilateral meeting over a working lunch. Both sides discussed opportunities to expand the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and Peru, and Indonesia’s interest in securing Peru’s support for its accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
President Prabowo emphasized shared values and geographical proximity across the Pacific, pointing to common interests in prosperity and development. He also highlighted fisheries as a promising area for cooperation, citing Peru’s global standing in the industry.
“Peruvian companies are among the world’s most advanced in the fisheries sector. I see great potential for collaboration, and I look forward to engaging with some of these companies soon,” Prabowo said.
The meeting concluded with a joint press statement, reaffirming both nations' aspirations to build a closer strategic partnership. The visit by President Boluarte is expected to catalyze new investments and cooperative ventures, especially in key sectors such as trade, fisheries, and food security.
