JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) is aiming for 3 million tons in carbon trading volume and 150 service users on its carbon exchange platform, IDXCarbon, by the end of 2025, as part of a broader effort to deepen Indonesia’s carbon market.
“We are targeting 3 million tons traded by the end of the year, and we’re aiming for 150 participants,” said President Director of IDX Iman Rachman on Tuesday during an event at the exchange’s Main Hall in Jakarta.
The main challenge in reaching this target, Iman noted, is not infrastructure, but education. He emphasized the urgent need to raise awareness and understanding among market participants.
“Our biggest task is education and outreach. That’s why we continue our campaigns. With today’s book launch, it’s easier for people to understand and access—no need to keep asking,” Iman said, referring to the release of a guidebook titled Understanding Carbon Trading for the Financial Services Sector, co-published with the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
The book was launched in a ceremony attended by top officials including Chairman of OJK’s Board of Commissioners Mahendra Siregar, Head of the Derivatives and Carbon Exchange Supervision Department I Made Bagus Tirthayatra, and IDX President Director Iman Rachman, among others.
Since its launch on Sept. 26, 2023, through July 11, 2025, IDXCarbon has recorded total trading volume of 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), with total trade value reaching Rp 77.95 billion ($4.7 million). Of that amount, 980,475 tons CO₂e have been retired, meaning they have been used to offset emissions.
As of now, 113 entities are registered users of the platform. The exchange has also listed 3.05 million tons of Emission Reduction Certificates (SPE-GRK), equivalent to 97% of all carbon units recorded in Indonesia’s National Registry System for Climate Change Control (SRN-PPI).
Eight projects across key sectors—such as renewable energy, waste management, and biogas production from palm oil mill effluent (POME)—have been officially listed on IDXCarbon. These initiatives support Indonesia’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions under its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets and position IDXCarbon as a catalyst for the country’s clean energy transition.
