Light Rains to Blanket Most of Indonesia as Meteorology Agency Flags Thunderstorms and Haze

JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Light showers are projected to dominate conditions across large parts of Indonesia on Sunday, according to the latest national weather forecast released by the country’s meteorological agency.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), the national state agency tasked with atmospheric and geophysical monitoring, outlined the outlook during a Sunday morning weather briefing. Agency forecaster Afif noted that light rain will likely sweep across several primary urban centers on Sumatra island, including Banda Aceh, Medan, Padang, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, and Bandar Lampung.

Across the wider archipelago, similar precipitation patterns are developing in Kalimantan and eastern Indonesia. Light rainfall is forecast for Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan and Tanjung Selor in North Kalimantan, alongside eastern population centers including Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya in Papua.

Moving into Java, Bali, and the Nusa Tenggara island chain, light rain is projected to hit Serang in Banten and Bandung in West Java. On Sulawesi island, forecasters anticipate similar showers to dampen Mamuju and Palu.

More severe weather conditions will strike select areas, with Pontianak in West Kalimantan facing the threat of localized thunderstorms. In contrast, partly cloudy to mostly overcast skies will prevail over Makassar, Kendari, Gorontalo, and Manado in Sulawesi.

Atmospheric haze is expected to reduce ambient visibility across southern Sumatra and Central Java, impacting Jambi, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, and Yogyakarta.

Meanwhile, heavy cloud cover will hang over Indonesia's largest commercial and metropolitan centers, including Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, and Denpasar in Bali. Partly cloudy skies will hover over Mataram and Kupang, while thick clouds to overcast skies will blanket Ambon, Ternate, and Merauke.

Given the wide variety of regional weather conditions, BMKG urged citizens and logistics operators to adjust daily outdoor activities and transit plans while staying updated via the agency's official forecast portals.
