JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia must ensure its position in upcoming economic negotiations with the United States delivers the best and most beneficial outcome for the country, particularly in the near term, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said on Sunday, Feb 15, 2026 in Bogor, conveying President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.
Prabowo convened a closed-door meeting with key economic ministers at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, on Sunday afternoon. The discussion focused on strengthening Indonesia’s strategy amid global economic dynamics and impending tariff negotiations with Washington.
"Ensuring that the position taken by Indonesia in every economic negotiation with any party, especially in the near future with the United States, is the best and most beneficial for Indonesia," Teddy wrote in a statement posted on his official account.
He said the president stressed that economic diplomacy must not be merely short-term and transactional. Negotiations, he added, must directly strengthen the national economic structure.
"The President wants negotiations to maximize improvements in domestic industrial productivity and strengthen the global supply chain of industry," Teddy said.
He further stated that every economic policy must produce tangible and immediate benefits for the nation.
"President Prabowo wants every policy taken to deliver concrete benefits for Indonesia as quickly and as broadly as possible," he added.
The Hambalang meeting took place ahead of Prabowo’s planned visit to the United States, where he is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump and sign an agreement on reciprocal trade around Wednesday, Feb 19, 2026.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto earlier said negotiations had been substantively concluded and were entering the final legal drafting stage.
"All substantive discussions have actually been completed. What remains is fine tuning in legal drafting, and then we are waiting for a mutually agreed schedule between President Prabowo Subianto and President Donald Trump," Airlangga said in Sentul, Bogor, on Monday, Feb 2, 2026.
Airlangga said the tariff rate for Indonesian exports to the United States had been reduced from 32 percent to 19 percent. He declined to provide further details, saying the final structure would be disclosed after the agreement is formally signed.
