JAKARTA, investortrust.id – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Bakrie, expressed confidence that bilateral trade between Indonesia and Vietnam could reach $18 billion, equivalent to Rp 293.3 trillion, in 2025.
“The target has been set at $18 billion, and I believe it is achievable, considering the enthusiasm and strong momentum,” Anindya said during a meeting at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Jakarta, on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
In 2024, bilateral trade between the two nations reached $16 billion, or approximately Rp 260.4 trillion.
Anindya highlighted that both countries have the potential to lead economic growth in the ASEAN region. Beyond benefiting bilateral relations, he noted that their strong economic expansion could support global growth amid current economic slowdowns.
Opportunities in Agriculture and Fisheries
For Indonesia, Anindya emphasized that strengthening economic ties with Vietnam presents significant opportunities, particularly in agriculture and fisheries.
“This partnership holds great potential, especially for our members in provinces and districts. Understanding Indonesia-Vietnam relations is crucial, including discussions on the South China Sea. Hopefully, this will create new opportunities, particularly in the fisheries sector,” he stated.
Investment and Ease of Doing Business
Regarding challenges, Anindya acknowledged that the Indonesian government, particularly the Ministry of Investment, is working hard to attract more foreign direct investment.
“The Vietnamese Secretary-General [To Lam] also mentioned that Vietnam has a strong ease-of-doing-business environment. Given their high trade volumes with the U.S. and other countries, Vietnam has built strong economic credibility. We can learn a lot from their approach,” he added.
