JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto and United States President Donald Trump will sign a bilateral trade tariff agreement next week in the United States as Indonesia commits to purchase energy products worth $15 billion from the US to help balance trade and secure reciprocal tariff adjustments.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the planned purchase of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas was discussed during a limited cabinet meeting led by Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, Feb 11, 2026.
"Earlier it was also discussed, one of our commitments in trade talks with the United States is that we will purchase fuel worth $15 billion. That includes LPG, crude oil, and refined fuel products, and it is part of the negotiations," Bahlil said after the meeting at the palace.
.
He said the imports would be realized this year if the agreement is finalized. "If the deal is reached, it will be implemented this year," he said.
Beyond energy, mining cooperation was also discussed as part of the broader tariff arrangement, with Indonesia signaling openness to US investment in critical minerals including nickel.
"We apply equal treatment. If they want to invest in Indonesia in critical minerals, including nickel, we are open. Our country follows a free and active foreign policy, so we provide equal treatment to all countries, including the United States," Bahlil said.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that the signing of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade would take place around Feb 19, 2026, when Prabowo visits the US to attend the Board of Peace meeting.
"It was conveyed that the President plans to attend the event on the 19th, and around that date there is also a plan to sign the ART, Agreement on Reciprocal Trade," Airlangga said at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, Feb 11, 2026.
.
Airlangga said export tariffs on Indonesian goods entering the US had declined from 32 percent to 19 percent but declined to disclose the final agreed rate until legal drafting is completed.
"We have already come down from 32 to 19, and there are other elements that we are waiting for until everything is 100 percent finalized," he said.
He added that substantive negotiations had been completed and only technical legal adjustments remained.
"All negotiations with the United States have essentially been completed. What remains is fine tuning in legal drafting, and then we are waiting for a mutually agreed schedule between President Prabowo Subianto and President Donald Trump," Airlangga said earlier in Sentul on Monday, Feb 2, 2026.
The planned energy imports are intended to help narrow the bilateral trade gap while anchoring a broader tariff compromise between the two economies.
