JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Vice President Gibran Rakabuming showcases digital payment system QRIS on Saturday, Nov 22, 2025 in Johannesburg to underline Indonesia’s push for low cost financial technology that boosts inclusion and supports broader regional cooperation. He highlights QRIS as an effective system adopted across Asia while the government calls for deeper G20 discussions on intelligence economy and artificial intelligence.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs said in a briefing that Airlangga Hartarto delivered Gibran’s message on QRIS during the G20 sessions in South Africa.
The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs added that Airlangga shared the update through a video conference held early Sunday after summit deliberations in Johannesburg.
Airlangga said, “The Indonesian government also highlights low cost digital solutions that Indonesia has implemented and proven effective, including the QRIS system, which has now been adopted by several countries in Asia such as Japan and Korea.”
Airlangga said the spread of QRIS illustrated how digital innovation supported financial inclusion and strengthened economic cooperation among Asian economies.
He added that Gibran encouraged G20 leaders to begin structured discussions on intelligence economy and artificial intelligence as financial technology continued to advance.
Airlangga said Gibran also emphasized the importance of food security as a fundamental need and a strategic investment for emerging economies.
Indonesia’s central bank developed QRIS as a national payment standard to enable fast, simple, and low cost transactions. The system expanded financial access for unbanked communities while improving efficiency and reducing transaction costs nationwide.
