India’s Thermax Explores Collaboration with Hundreds of Industrial Estates
JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – India-based energy solutions company Thermax is exploring partnerships with 100 industrial estates initiated by Indonesian developer PT Jababeka Tbk (KIJA). The collaboration was highlighted by India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, during the Thermax Roadshow in Jakarta.
"I support the proposal for Thermax to partner with hundreds of industrial estates in Indonesia. At the very least, they can provide energy solutions and risk management for planned industrial zones in the country," Chakravorty stated during a panel discussion at The Westin, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025.
Shared Energy Challenges Between India and Indonesia
Chakravorty emphasized that India and Indonesia share similar energy challenges, particularly their reliance on coal. While both nations still depend on coal for energy generation, he noted that transitioning coal into cleaner energy sources is essential. "In this regard, Indonesia and India can collaborate closely," he added.
He also acknowledged Indonesia’s strong commitment to achieving net zero emissions, aligning with India’s own efforts. "I believe companies like Thermax can play a crucial role in this transition. We are leading the way in adhering to our nationally determined contribution (NDC) commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. India is one of the few G20 nations that has fully committed to its NDC targets," Chakravorty explained.
Thermax’s Commitment to Indonesia’s Energy Transition
Thermax reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Indonesia’s energy transition by showcasing its latest innovations in energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainable industrial energy solutions.
"Our goal is to help Indonesian businesses reduce their energy and carbon footprints, bringing the country closer to its net zero emissions target," said Thermax CEO Ashish Bhandari during a press conference at The Westin Jakarta.
Bhandari highlighted Indonesia’s ongoing push for renewable energy, particularly through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). Given the critical role of the industrial sector in driving change, Thermax is strengthening its collaboration to provide cutting-edge solutions for energy efficiency and decarbonization.
"This approach will support industries in contributing to Indonesia’s net zero emissions goal by 2050," he stated.
Jababeka’s Nationwide Industrial Expansion Plans
Jababeka, one of Indonesia’s leading industrial estate developers, remains committed to expanding its footprint nationwide. The company aims to develop 100 industrial estates across the country, with several already operational.
"We are building 100 industrial estates across Indonesia. The ones already established include Cikarang in West Java, Kendal in Central Java, Cilegon and Tanjung Lesung in Banten, and Morotai in North Maluku. We also have memorandums of understanding with 17 regional governments, though these are still in preliminary stages," said Jababeka President Director Setyono Djuandi Darmono.
The planned expansion aligns with Indonesia’s broader efforts to attract investment, boost industrial productivity, and transition towards cleaner energy solutions, making partnerships with global firms like Thermax increasingly vital.
