SINGAPORE, Investortrust.id — The Ning King, one of Indonesia’s most respected property magnates and founder of Alam Sutera, has passed away at the age of 94. The news was confirmed by his family on Sunday, Nov 2, 2025, and quickly spread across social media and business circles.
"With deep sorrow, we announce that Mr. The Ning King has peacefully returned to God the Father in Heaven this Sunday, Nov 2, 2025, at 15:37 Singapore time, at the age of 94," the family said in a text message circulated among relatives and friends.
The family also confirmed that his remains will be flown to Jakarta on Tuesday, Nov 4, 2025. The wake will be held from Wednesday to Thursday, followed by the burial ceremony on Friday.
Born in Bandung on April 20, 1931, The Ning King built a business legacy spanning nearly seven decades. He was the founder of Argo Manunggal Group, which began as a textile enterprise before expanding into property development, manufacturing, and other industries. He is survived by his wife, Lie Ang Sioe Nio, and their family.
The Ning King’s business journey began humbly in Central Java’s textile industry in the early 1960s, long before his rise to prominence in real estate. After learning business fundamentals from his father’s textile shop in Jakarta, he established his first textile factory in Salatiga in 1961. The venture grew rapidly and evolved into PT Argo Pantes Tbk, one of Indonesia’s leading textile producers at the time.
His mastery of supply chain integration—from yarn to finished fabric—helped position Argo Pantes as a major player in the national textile industry. However, the 1998 Asian financial crisis became a turning point that reshaped his business philosophy. Like many conglomerates then, his operations were hit by debt exposure and asset deflation. Reflecting on the crisis, he adopted a guiding principle that would define his later success: prudence and diversification.
Emerging from that difficult period, The Ning King founded PT Alam Sutera Realty Tbk (ASRI), marking his entry into property development. Unlike peers driven by speculative land appreciation, he envisioned and executed the concept of integrated urban townships — self-sustaining environments combining residential, commercial, educational, and recreational facilities.
That vision gave rise to Alam Sutera in Tangerang, now widely recognized as one of Indonesia’s most successful planned communities. His development philosophy emphasized long-term value creation over short-term profit, ensuring balanced growth across business and community functions.
The success of Alam Sutera paved the way for Suvarna Sutera in Pasar Kemis, Tangerang, a massive 2,600-hectare expansion project under ASRI. The development reinforced the group’s reputation for disciplined management and consistent quality execution, establishing The Ning King as one of the architects of Indonesia’s modern real estate landscape.
His passing marks the end of an era for Indonesia’s property industry. Yet, his enduring legacy — built on integrity, vision, and discipline — continues to shape the philosophy of urban development across the country.
