JAKARTA, Investortrust.id – Damri and Transjakarta have launched a new electric bus service on Route 1W connecting Ancol and Blok M, marking another step in Jakarta’s transition toward sustainable public transportation.
The initiative, officially inaugurated on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Transjakarta Ancol Bus Stop, features high-deck electric buses. The ceremony was attended by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, President Director of PT Transportasi Jakarta Welfizon Yuza, and Damri President Director Setia N Milatia Moemin.
The route adds to the city’s broader effort to tackle worsening air pollution while offering citizens a cleaner and quieter commuting option. The Ancol–Blok M line is part of Damri’s broader ambition to deploy 200 electric buses by the end of 2025.
In his remarks, Setia emphasized Damri’s dual commitment to providing high-quality transportation services and reducing carbon emissions. “Damri is committed to more than just reliable public transport—we are part of the solution to create a healthier, more livable environment,” he said on Monday, July 28.
Building the Ecosystem
In addition to supplying electric buses, Damri is investing in critical infrastructure to support the transition, including battery charging stations and workforce training programs.
Currently, the company operates 35 charging stations at its Klender and Pupar depots. These will soon be expanded with 15 additional units at the Cawang depot and 24 at Ciputat. The firm is also providing human resource development to ensure sustainable operations across its electric fleet.
This infrastructure development is designed to ensure that the new electric bus network can operate efficiently and reliably. It also forms part of Damri’s plan to extend electric bus services beyond Jakarta, aligning with Indonesia’s national targets to reduce pollution and build greener cities.
Previously, partnered with PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR), an electric vehicle manufacturer under the Bakrie Group, to operate 80 completely knocked down (CKD) electric buses supplied to PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta). The collaboration supports Transjakarta’s commitment to zero-emission public transportation across the capital.
This new fleet complements VKTR’s previous delivery of 20 electric buses operated by other partners, bringing the company’s total contribution to 152 units within Transjakarta’s network. Through this partnership, Damri reinforces its role in accelerating Indonesia’s green mobility agenda while maintaining its commitment to reliable, sustainable urban transport.
