JAKARTA, investortrust.id — Indonesia and Singapore have entered a strategic agreement to enhance food security and agricultural innovation through the transfer of advanced farming technologies. The memorandum of understanding was signed on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Parliament House in Singapore, during the Leaders’ Retreat between President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman and Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu signed the agreement, which was witnessed directly by the two heads of government. The deal aims to promote sustainable practices, modernize agricultural processes, and improve food availability and quality for both countries.
President Prabowo Subianto described the agreement as a “crucial foundation” for accelerating the adoption of modern, environmentally friendly agricultural technologies in Indonesia. “In our efforts to ensure Indonesia’s food security, we welcome Prime Minister Wong’s offer to initiate the transfer of modern agricultural technologies and sustainable post-harvest practices,” said Prabowo during a press conference following the signing.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized the shared commitment to food resilience, stating, “We know that food security is a key priority area for Indonesia, and Singapore will support this through a youth farmer development program to exchange best practices in agricultural technology solutions.”
Under the MoU, both countries have agreed to facilitate technical exchanges related to food safety, including laboratory inspections and testing procedures, and to collaborate on agricultural innovations such as urban farming. They also committed to enabling the electronic exchange of food-related sanitation certificates and exploring other forms of cooperation in agricultural regulation and trade.
Minister Amran Sulaiman said the agreement marks an important step forward in strengthening agricultural cooperation between the two nations. “Indonesia is open to building mutually beneficial agricultural cooperation,” he said. “We welcome the collaboration and Singapore’s commitment to jointly advance a better agricultural sector going forward.”
The cooperation will also involve networking and business matching activities, technical training, knowledge exchange sessions, and other joint initiatives designed to elevate the capabilities of farmers and agricultural institutions in both countries.
The food security pact is part of a broader diplomatic effort that saw the signing of 19 strategic MoUs during President Prabowo’s state visit to Singapore. These agreements span key sectors including energy, defense, human capital development, and bilateral trade.
“I am very confident that this bilateral relationship will continue to grow stronger with the increasing trust and confidence between our countries, which will be proven in the years to come,” President Prabowo concluded.
