Qatar Commits $2 Billion Investment in Indonesia's Danantara Fund During Prabowo Visit

JAKARTA, investortrust.id – President Prabowo Subianto has announced that Qatar has committed to invest $2 billion in Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Authority, or BPI Danantara. The commitment was made during a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the Amiri Diwan Palace in Doha on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
“This was a very productive meeting. We agreed to strengthen our cooperation. His Highness has committed to invest with Danantara in a joint fund—he pledged two billion dollars,” said President Prabowo in Doha.
Prabowo was accompanied at the meeting by Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani, who also serves as Indonesia’s Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry, as well as Minister of Housing and Settlements Maruarar Sirait. He explained that both Indonesia and Qatar have agreed to each allocate $2 billion to the joint investment vehicle.

Prabowo stated that the investment commitment is a continuation of Indonesia's broader economic diplomacy efforts. According to him, the Emir of Qatar has shown strong enthusiasm for the partnership.
“This is a good step forward, a follow-up initiative, and His Highness is very enthusiastic,” Prabowo said.
The Indonesian delegation also included Foreign Minister Sugiono, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesia’s Ambassador to Qatar Ridwan Hassan.
In addition to the investment pledge, the leaders of both countries also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing a formal Strategic Dialogue between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Qatar. The agreement was signed by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

The agreement lays the foundation for an annual foreign minister-level strategic dialogue. It also includes provisions for senior officials meetings (SOM) and ad hoc working groups to implement specific bilateral cooperation initiatives.
The dialogue framework aims to deepen collaboration across a wide range of strategic sectors, including politics, international and regional affairs, defense and security, economy and energy, agriculture and food security, tourism, science and technology, health, sports, youth, migrant worker protection, and coordination in multilateral forums.
