JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia has rolled out a coordinated post-disaster response on Friday, Jan 9, 2026 in Sumatra as financial regulators eased credit terms, the government launched large-scale UMKM recovery, and President Prabowo Subianto formed a national task force to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction, a move expected to stabilize livelihoods and restore regional economic activity.
The Financial Services Authority provided special regulatory treatment for debtors affected by floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra under Regulation No. 19 of 2022 on disaster-affected regions and sectors.
OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar said financial institutions had completed debtor data collection to ensure the policy reached eligible borrowers.
“We can convey an update that financial institutions have carried out data collection on debtors who can benefit from the special treatment policy,” Mahendra said during the virtual Monthly Board of Commissioners press conference for December 2025.
He added that some borrowers had begun preparing credit restructuring agreements, while others remained in the assessment process.
“And some of them are currently processing the preparation of credit restructuring agreements for affected debtors,” Mahendra said.
Mahendra said OJK would disclose progress regularly to maintain transparency and public confidence.
“We will report developments periodically to our colleagues in the media and to the public,” he said.
Parallel to the financial relief, the government officially launched the economic recovery phase for micro, small, and medium enterprises starting Thursday, Jan 9, 2026.
Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Maman Abdurrahman said more than 2.3 million UMKM were affected across the three provinces based on joint data with regional governments and financial institutions.
“We have started market reactivation and collective clean-up of stalls and shops across affected areas so that the community economy can move again,” Maman said after a ministerial coordination meeting in Jakarta.
The ministry prepared eight UMKM Bangkit Clinics in Banda Aceh, Pidie, Pidie Jaya, Aceh Utara, Aceh Tamiang, Tapanuli Tengah, Medan, and Padang to facilitate business recovery and financing access.
As of Dec 9, 2025, more than 200,000 affected UMKM were recorded as Kredit Usaha Rakyat debtors, prompting the government to extend credit relaxation in coordination with banks and KUR guarantors.
“UMKM recovery is like blood circulation in the body, they must receive services so they can produce again,” Maman said. “After that, we help with marketing and encourage people to buy UMKM products so the regional economy can move again.”
To strengthen coordination, President Prabowo Subianto appointed Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian as head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force for Sumatra.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the decision reflected the wide geographic impact of the disaster across three provinces.
“The President has decided to form a task force for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, and he appointed General Tito Karnavian, the Home Affairs Minister, as the task force head,” Prasetyo said.
The task force will oversee infrastructure repairs, including damaged roads and bridges, and prioritize the construction of housing for displaced residents.
“It is not only about emergency response but also rehabilitation and reconstruction of all affected infrastructure,” Prasetyo said.
The government said temporary and permanent housing development would be accelerated, while compensation would be provided for homes categorized as lightly and moderately damaged.
