JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Social media platform X pays an administrative fine of nearly Rp 80 million, equal to about $5,100, after the Ministry of Communication and Digital found delays in handling pornographic content, a move aimed at strengthening child protection and digital safety.
The payment followed a third formal warning and extended communication between the government and the platform, signaling firmer enforcement of Indonesia’s digital content regulations.
Director General for Digital Space Oversight at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Alexander Sabar said the fine was paid on Friday, Dec 12, 2025. He stated that the payment came after sustained follow-up by the government regarding X’s content moderation obligations.
“Payment of the administrative fine was made by X on Dec 12, 2025 after we issued a third warning letter and conducted further communication with the platform,” Alexander said in an official statement on Sunday.
After intensive coordination, X informed the ministry by email that it had appointed an official representative to complete the payment process. The ministry welcomed the platform’s willingness to comply with the established requirements.
“This step reflects compliance by an Electronic System Operator with prevailing regulations to ensure Indonesia’s digital space remains safe, healthy, and productive,” Alexander said.
He added that all administrative fines were processed through official channels and transferred directly to the state treasury managed by the Ministry of Finance. The process followed applicable laws and regulations.
Alexander said regulatory enforcement against both local and global digital platforms remained a continuous effort by the government. The goal was to protect Indonesian users, particularly children and vulnerable groups, from harmful online content.
