JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk, or GOTO, has clarified that former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim has had no involvement in the company’s management, operations, or shareholding since October 2019. The statement comes after prosecutors named him a suspect in an alleged corruption case linked to the procurement of Chromebook laptops.
Ade Mulya, GoTo’s Director of Public Affairs and Communications, said on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, that Makarim resigned from his position as president commissioner of PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa, then known as Gojek, in October 2019.
“Mr. Nadiem Makarim is no longer a director, commissioner, or employee of PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa, since October 2019 when he stepped down as president commissioner,” Ade said in a statement.
He emphasized that after his resignation, Makarim no longer had any role in GoTo’s operations or management. Ade also confirmed that the former minister does not hold a controlling stake in the company.
GoTo stressed that its business activities are entirely unrelated to Makarim’s duties during his time as minister. The company also rejected speculation about its involvement in the Chromebook procurement program.

“As a public company, GoTo upholds the principles of good corporate governance, accountability, and transparency in line with prevailing regulations,” Ade said.
He added that the company fully respects the ongoing legal process and will leave it to law enforcement authorities. Despite the case implicating one of its co-founders, GoTo said it remains focused on running its business.
“As a technology company, we are committed to delivering positive impact to millions of users, driver-partners, and micro, small, and medium enterprises across Indonesia,” Ade said.
Legal Case Developments
The Attorney General’s Office announced on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, that Nadiem had been officially designated a suspect in the corruption case related to the procurement of information and communication technology devices using Chrome OS.
Director of Investigations at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Nurcahyo Jungkung Madyo, said Nadiem would be held in custody at the Salemba detention center, South Jakarta, for 20 days.
Prosecutors estimated the state’s financial losses from the project at around Rp 1.98 trillion, though the final figure is still pending audit by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
Nadiem was charged under Article 2(1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55(1) of the Criminal Code.
