BOGOR, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto hosts leaders from 16 Islamic organizations at his Hambalang residence in Bogor, West Java, on Saturday, Aug 30, 2025, to address recent national tensions and to build consensus on preserving peace and stability.
Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama, Yahya Cholil Staquf, said the dialogue unfolded openly and responsibly, with all organizations agreeing to work hand in hand with the President to calm the public and collectively confront the nation’s challenges.
“We held a heart-to-heart discussion with the President, joined by several ministers, the Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly, and the head of the State Intelligence Agency. We agreed to encourage calm among the people and, God willing, together with President Prabowo Subianto and other religious leaders, we can face the challenges ahead,” Yahya said after the meeting.
He added that future meetings would be held at the State Palace, where both the President and Islamic organizations are expected to declare a joint commitment to uphold peace and unity.
Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir stressed the importance of protecting national cohesion. He underlined that democracy must be exercised responsibly, with civility and without violence, which could otherwise threaten Indonesia’s unity.
“We share the same perspective that Islamic organizations, as movements with deep historical roots in the Republic, have always played a role in independence and nation-building. We understand the importance of safeguarding unity and the country’s future,” Haedar said.
He added that the organizations delivered their views directly to the President, who listened openly. According to Haedar, aspirations should always be voiced with responsibility, avoiding violence that undermines national integrity.
The Hambalang meeting was viewed as a positive step by the President to engage moral forces within Islamic organizations to preserve national stability. Many observers noted that intensified communication between government and civil society can strengthen dialogue as a solution, preventing destructive actions that may harm both citizens and the state.
Future sessions at the State Palace are expected to culminate in a collective declaration between the President and Islamic leaders, reflecting a shared commitment to peace, solidarity, and unity.
Among the participants were Hamdan Zoelva, Chairman of Syarikat Islam, accompanied by Secretary General Ferry Juliantono; Adian Husaini, Chairman of Dewan Dakwah Islamiyah Indonesia; Anwar Iskandar, Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council; Jeje Zaenudin, Chairman of Persatuan Islam; Abdul Mu’ti, Secretary General of Muhammadiyah; Syaifullah Yusuf, Secretary General of Nahdlatul Ulama; and Nasrullah Larada, Chairman of the Alumni Association of Islamic Students (PII).
