JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto has received firm confirmation from Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri that her party will remain outside the governing coalition, despite extending support for public welfare.
In a private meeting earlier this week, Megawati conveyed to Prabowo that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, or PDIP, would not join the Red White Cabinet coalition. However, she offered her party's resources to assist the administration when necessary, provided it aligns with the nation’s interests and people’s welfare.
"Ms. Megawati hopes President Prabowo’s term, which began on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, will be effective in improving the well-being of the people. If deemed necessary, PDIP can be used as an instrument to strengthen the government, but not as part of the coalition," said Ahmad Muzani, Secretary General of the Great Indonesia Movement Party, or Gerindra, on Wednesday, Apr. 9, 2025.
According to Muzani, the conversation between the two senior political figures was constructive. Megawati reiterated that PDIP’s support would be grounded in national interest, not in pursuit of political power.
"At its core, Ms. Megawati hopes President Prabowo will be able to use his authority as head of state and head of government to benefit the people and the nation," he added.
President Prabowo had visited Megawati’s residence on Teuku Umar Street in Central Jakarta on Monday evening, Apr. 7, 2025. The meeting lasted about 90 minutes and was attended by several political figures including Ahmad Muzani, Prasetyo Hadi, Lieutenant Colonel Teddy, and Aries Marsudiyanto.
"President Prabowo is grateful for the support and encouragement from Ms. Megawati. This gesture will certainly help strengthen the current government," Muzani noted.
This meeting also followed a public show of respect between the two parties during PDIP’s 52nd anniversary event earlier this year, where Megawati delivered a political speech underscoring the importance of integrity and dedication to national welfare.
