JAKARTA, investortrust.id — President Prabowo Subianto emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with France during a courtesy visit by French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday.
Barrot’s visit to Jakarta marks the commemoration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France.
“This will be an opportunity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, to open a new chapter in our partnership aimed at enhancing our shared sovereignty and combining our strengths to address key global and regional challenges of this century,” Barrot said after his meeting with President Prabowo.
The leaders discussed a wide range of issues, with a primary focus on reinforcing the Strategic Partnership established in 2011. The two countries had previously laid the groundwork for deeper collaboration through a Plan of Action signed on November 24, 2021.
Barrot also expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s efforts in organizing the visit.
“This is also a moment for me to thank President Prabowo for Indonesia’s active preparations for this visit,” he told the press.
President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s intention to expand bilateral cooperation with France, particularly in defense modernization and technology transfer—two areas identified as national priorities.
The Indonesian government views a strong defense system as fundamental to maintaining national stability, and seeks French collaboration in developing that capability.
Accompanying President Prabowo at the meeting were Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
